This set includes 14 puzzles with 5 pieces each. The center piece represents the main idea. Each supporting detail is on the remaining pieces. The topics include:
fall, birthdays, firefighters, Halloween, reading, the zoo, making a cake, Thanksgiving, back to school, pets, dental health, plants, numbers, and best friends.
Possibilities for use:
Mix the main ideas on a table or post in the room. Students choose one main idea to start and must locate the supporting details to complete the puzzle. Students could work alone, with a partner, or with a group.
After finding and completing the puzzle, students could write a paragraph using the main idea and supporting details. Challenge students to add transitional words or a concluding sentence.
Have students sort the sentences into facts and opinions. See if they can change some sentences into opinions or change some into facts.
