My students always seemed to struggle with coming up with main idea statements for non-fiction texts. They'd always write something like "how sharks hunt". They need to be more specific. This helps them be concise and to the point and also provides them with a means to start a short summary about a text.
This document can be used with any short non-fiction text. I used 4 Science texts provided by the Science teacher.
In this document students will:
- Write main idea statements about 4 texts (texts not included) using specific vocabulary.
- Write summary paragraphs for the 4 texts (texts not included).
