Main Ideas! Maps! Make Time for Kids or Scholastic News even better!
I’m not sure about you but as an upper elementary teacher these days, I just can’t find enough time to make great use of every resource I have! My school provides us with “Time For Kids” magazines which are a great reading resource for current events, as we all know. My goal was to get more “BANG for the BUCK” (so to speak) from this resource.
Over the past several years I started incorporating map skills with the articles we read – locating the countries on a map and starting to learn which countries are on which continents, knowledge that even adults sometimes lack in this ever-changing world.
Then I was introduced to a better way to write main idea statements – statements that become a sentence summary for an article.
