What a sweet activity to use to identify the main idea of a story! After reading a story or nonfiction text, students will determine the main topic, main idea, and three details from the story. For students using more advanced text, you may want them to use this activity with a paragraph from the text instead of the entire text. First, students will write the topic on the cherry. Next, they will write the main idea on the banana. Then, they will write three details from the story on each ice cream scoop. Glue the sides and bottom of the bowl. Do not glue the middle of the bowl. Glue the ice cream scoops on the banana. Place banana and scoops at the top inside the bowl and glue them so it slightly sticks out. Glue the cherry on top and enjoy your creation!
