This activity helps students determine main idea and supporting details. There are 6 different main idea strips that vary in difficulty making differentiation easier.
Each strip includes the topic, main idea, four details that support the main idea, and one detail that does not support the main idea. The students must determine what the main idea is and glue it to the top of the table. Then they determine the four supporting details and glue one to each of the table legs.
I included the topic because students can have a hard time differentiating between the topic and the main idea.
This activity visually shows students that the details are there to support the main idea like a table top is supported by its legs.
