This Main Idea Task Card Bundle targets reading strategies and comprehension. It includes 3 sets of task cards (a total of 96) which are differentiated for different reading levels or for scaffolding. The task cards are engaging for students and a big time saver for busy teachers!
Here’s what’s included:
Task Card Set 1 (Blue)
Four words are given and the child names the main idea (category). For football, baseball, hockey, and tennis, the main idea would be Types of Sports.
Task Card Set 2 (Pink)
This set gives 4 different supporting detail sentences and asks the child to name the main idea
Task Card Set 3 (Purple)
This set lists the main idea. It also has 4 supporting details and asks the child which supporting detail sentence is NOT related to the main idea. This is a challenging set because sometimes the supporting details are not always obvious. For example, if the main idea was about a shark’s diet, all of the four supporting details might be about sharks but only three of them would mention something about what a shark likes to eat.
A Record Sheet (May be used for all of the sets)
Detailed Teacher Notes
To make the cards last for several years, I recommend copying the task cards on cardstock and laminating them or attaching them to construction paper and then laminating them.
The task cards are a great addition to your reading materials! They may be used for reading time, for centers, for homework or morning work, for whole class activities, for one on one tutoring and more!
******* PLEASE NOTE: These task cards are also included in a very comprehensive Main Idea Kit with 5 passages, 3 sorts, 3 matching pages, 3 games, plus this set of 3 task cards! It is deeply discounted at $12.00 for 135 pages. To check it out, click here:
