This is a set of 28 Main Idea Task Cards that I created to practice selecting the main idea of a passage with my class. I use these task cards to play a game called Scoot. We place a task card on each students desk and they are timed for 30 secs to 1 min per question. The student must select the sentence or answer choice (Because some of these task cards have an implied main idea and the student is supplied with multiple choice answers) and write it on a piece of paper that they will carry from desk to desk. Once time is up, the teacher says SCOOT and each student will move to the next desk.
These could also be used with centers or laminated and students could mark or underline their answer using dry erase markers on the actual task cards.
So many possibilities.
Some passages I found off online worksheet resource sites, some I came up with myself, and some are from books such as Stone Fox, which is a read-aloud that my class is currently reading.
