Here's Set 2 of my Main Idea Task Cards. Set 1 was a Best Seller, so I decided to create another set.
These task cards, just like the first set, are all Nonfiction texts, giving your students practice with reading nonfiction, as well as identifying the main idea of the text and finding supporting details. This is a HUGE skill that our students need to master, and having it in a task card activity is perfect for any classroom.
Uses for task cards... place in a literacy center, use with small groups and/or reading workshop, post the task cards on the wall for early finishers, do a task card a day as a bell ringer/morning work, play Scoot with them... the list can keep going.
I have found that the easiest way for me to store these are in 4x6 photo books that I find at a dollar store. Students take the book to their seat and work on the ones they need to complete. Other ways include laminating and punching holes in the corner to keep on a binder ring, keeping them in gallon sized baggies, or keeping them in sheet protectors in a binder.
If you haven't checked out my 1st set of Main Idea task cards, make sure to do so. These go hand in hand and will help your students master this important reading skill!
