After modeling with the two books, I assign the students to choose their own fiction and non-fiction books to write about. The students write a main idea sentence that allows identifies the author's purpose. Then, they write a summary of the story as their supporting details. Although the examples are used for Charlotte's Web and Spiders, the students are able to write any book they choose.
