Perfect for working with informational texts that have several headings, this two-sided graphic organizer and note catcher can be used in several ways.
1. Each student is assigned one section of the text. They must take notes on the main idea of their section with four supporting details. Then, each student can share their information orally in a whole group or small group setting. The other students must take notes on four other students' information.
2. The front side can be done in groups or pairs. Those groups can then split out into several small groups and take notes on each persons.
3. The front can be completed individually or in groups or pairs. Then, students must mingle with each other to find people who did four different sections than them. They need to swap information and take notes.
Of course, these are just ideas! You know what works best in your classroom, with your texts, and with your students!
You may want to add lines in the main idea and detail section if you plan on using it with 2nd or 3rd graders.
