This resource includes three activities to do with students around main ideas and details. *black and white and color options are included!*
Included are thirty suitcases filled with related items/objects used as details. There are also thirty tags with main ideas matching the suitcase details. Large and small blank suitcases and main idea tags are included for you or your students to come up with their own ideas! An answer key and recording sheets are also included.
Cut out each of the filled suitcases and main idea tags. Laminate them for durability.
Main Idea Matching - Students should lay out the main idea cards. One at a time, they should choose a suitcase and look at all of the items in it. Based on the items in the suitcase (details), what is the suitcase mostly about (main idea)?
What's the Main Idea - One at a time, students should choose a suitcase and look at all of the items in it. Based on the items in the suitcase (details), what is the suitcase mostly about (main idea)?
Instead of matching to the main idea tags, students will come up with their own main ideas for each suitcase
Creating Details - After being given a main idea tag, students should draw or cut out pictures and fill a blank suitcase with related details.
