Description

This product contains two passages and a teaching poster that explains the ice cream cone analogy! For each passage, the students have to read the passage and then determine the main idea and three supporting details. They write their statements beside the ice cream cone (main idea) and scoops of ice cream (supporting details).

********This resource is available in two formats:

1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute paper copies to your students to complete.

2. Easel Activity- With this format, an interactive layer has been added to the original PDF!** This paperless version uses text boxes and drawing tools so that your students can complete it on a device. You can assign it to your students via Google Drive, and they can return it to you to review. Click on the Getting Started Guide to learn more about this version of the activity!

I use a triple scoop ice cream cone to teach my students about main idea. Check out the other products at my store if you are interested in learning more about this analogy.

If you like this graphic organizer and would like additional worksheets arranged like this, check out this listing:

Main Idea and Details Worksheets: 5 passages with graphic organizers!

Main Idea and Details Craftivity: Ice Cream Cones for upper elementary

Main Idea and Details Craftivity (for lower elementary)

Main Idea: Targeted Tri-folds

Main Idea and Supporting Details PowerPoint: ICE CREAM! (includes test prep!)

Main Idea Task Cards (includes 30 cards!)

The second worksheet is actually part of an anchor chart activity. Check out my blog post at Crafting Connections. I made this student version in case teachers want their students to write on their own mini-anchor chart version while teachers are writing on the real anchor chart!
