Product Description
Thank you for checking out my product!

I use this resource with my 4th grade class to help them practice identify the main idea of paragraphs. It also provides them with a chance to think about how paragraphs are formed and asks them to think about which information does not belong in a paragraph based on its main idea.

The product includes the following:
*4 informational paragraphs. Each paragraph includes one sentence that does not belong.
*1 recording sheet for students to write the main idea of each paragraph as well as the sentence that does not belong.
*1 worksheet that asks students to choose an additional sentence that fits the main idea of each paragraph
*1 enrichment worksheet that asks students to WRITE an additional sentence that fits the main idea of each paragraph

I usually have my students write on the paragraphs to help them identify the main idea of each. I ask them to find the topic, underline words that re-appear, etc. Then they use their notes to complete the rest of the packet. I typically give most of my students the packet with the multiple choice worksheet at the end, but give my enrichment students a different packet replacing the multiple choice worksheet with the one where they have to write their own sentences. It's the same concept, just a bit more challenging.

You could make this lesson more interactive by placing the paragraphs around the room and having students work in groups one paragraph at a time.

After using this product with your class, I would greatly appreciate your feedback!
