A game to sort words that belong to the same category, “main idea”, “supporting details” and “a non-example” for students in kindergarten through second grade that are able to read, or as an intervention tool in third and fourth grade.
In this activity students are not required to read a passage before starting. They simply sort words within a set of five (or six), trying to make sense of them and establish their meaning within a context.
It is a great activity to reinforce the concept of Main Idea and Supporting Details after it has been introduced to the class. It also includes a “non-example” word unrelated to the other five in each set, when it is used as printed. If you would rather not have a non-example, all of them correlate to the one in the next page so it makes extra groups of words.
¡Includes titles in two difficulty levels to create sorting mats!
