For the first activity (labeled main idea pumpkin sort), have the students cut out the pumpkin and the pumpkin seeds. Have the students match the details (seeds) with the correct main idea (pumpkin). This can be a center or they can cut and glue them on construction paper.
If your students finish early or have higher-level learners, I have included an extension activity. There are two pumpkins with missing main ideas and 6 details (seeds). The students have to sort the seeds to figure out the two missing main ideas. They match 3 seeds to each pumpkin. I also have two pumpkins with main ideas and blank seeds. The students use the main idea to write their own details.
I have attached a writing paper as well. You can have your students pick one of the main idea sets
and write a story/passage using the main idea and details.
