This main idea and details pack will help your students master the skill of finding these story elements through the use of engaging nonfiction passages.
To help students find the main idea and details of a text, I have written 18 nonfiction passages for your students to read. Each animal has a total of three readers. There are two for struggling readers and then another passage for your other students to use. I use these activities during guided reading.
For your struggling students there are "easy readers" that have dots for your students to touch underneath each word. The words' dots are color coded to help your students recognize their sight words and their decodable words.
For your "on level and above level" students, there are passages about each animal where students can underline the main idea and then highlight their favorite details.
Each level of text has questions that your students can answer about the animals.
There is even an interactive notebook component and vocabulary section to this package.
This packet is perfect for guided reading groups for all levels in your classroom.
