Build a Main Idea and Supporting Detail Snowman
Students read supporting details and sort the snowman body parts based on which main idea hat they support.
Pages 3-6 are a set of four snowmen with one being blank to record a main idea and three supporting details of their own.
Page 7-10 is a differentiated set of three snowmen with one being blank to record main idea and three supporting details from their own reading.
I printed passages from Reading A-Z for my kiddos. You may have all of your students read the same passage or choose passages based on their reading levels. My students loved the passage, Now That’s a Big Bird from ReadWorks.org (If you do not have Reading A-Z, ReadWorks is Free!)
Students first cut out the hats then the bodies and sort the supporting detail, snowballs based on which hat they support.
P.S. This activity can double as a cross curricular science connection with a main idea of the three states of matter.
