This is a short assignment for students to use to practice finding the main idea and supporting details of a piece of writing. Using a familiar text--in this case, The Hunger Games--means it's easier for students to focus on the main idea, rather than decoding new words.
Students are asked to find the main idea of the entire passage and list two supporting details that go along with it, and then asked to find the main idea and supporting details of a specific paragraph.
An answer key is provided, though student answers will likely vary.
This assignment was created to supplement Scholastic READ 180 Stage C Workshop 1: Survivors.
