Here is one more way to get students reflecting on a non-fiction text or narrative of your/their choice for a book at ANY reading level. This can even be used with text books/anthologies.
Students will read any non-fiction subject book or non-fiction narrative. They will reflect on their book by filling in the main idea/theme, supporting quotes, and then paraphrasing their chosen quotes. They will then reflect on their text by finishing sentence starters that help them identify their personal "take-aways" from their text. Designed for multiple uses, multi-use.
Flexible use options;
-use for small or whole groups
-use with lit.circles, book clubs, novel/book studies
-use as a document during independent reading, SSR, DEAR
-use as a project or part of a HW packet
-use to supplement ANY reading program
-use to supplement articles/non-fiction narratives in teacher-purchased books, on-line resources, or anthologies/basals
-use with shorter or longer texts
-an introductory page
-a shorter page once 1st page has been used
