Tired of searching through a thick binder to find a student's tab when you want to take a quick note on a student meeting or a parent phone call? How about when you are planning for instruction or an individual student conference and you cannot find the note you took on the student last week? What about when you have to reference that note days, weeks, or even months later for a parent conference, student meeting, to plan for instruction, or a teacher evaluation?
This Excel tool allows teachers to easily organize, access, and maintain accurate records of anecdotal notes on every student in one place. The tool allows teachers to easily demonstrate knowledge of every one of their students based on the organized structure of the information. Teachers can also use this tool to record formative assessment data.
Each student has an individual tab where the teacher enters the date, subject area, comments, and reminders from any interaction with or about the student. Subject areas include Behavior, General, Math, Reading, and Writing. When conferring with a student, the teacher can review previous comments in a matter of seconds to determine the focus of the next conference as well as monitor student progress from meeting to meeting.
The meeting dates for Math, Reading, and Writing automatically populate to different tabs that allow teachers to identify the number of times and how often they meet with students in each subject area. It allows teachers to quickly determine if they have not recently checked in with a student on a particular subject area. It will also show that students needing additional support have been checked in with more frequently.
Each student's individual tab has a place to enter a reminder. All students' reminders automatically populate into a separate tab. This view of all reminders helps teachers identify trends across students to help set instructional outcomes, organize instructional groups, and plan for upcoming lessons.
Say good bye to cluttered binders and hello to a new way of organizing student information to improve your teaching and your students' learning.
