Major Countries Cities of Asia (Geography Introduction)

Major Countries Cities of Asia (Geography Introduction)
Product Description
Asia Geography Worksheets for Australian Curriculum

I designed this series of worksheets to be used as a general orientation to Asia for Middle School students.

(This worksheet is available in a package with multiple worksheets here: Duffy's Asia Australia Geography Worksheets Package)

I have been developing them to be an introduction to an integrated unit of Year 8 History (Shogunate Japan) and Year 8 Geography (Unit 2: Changing Nations).

Each of these worksheets has been designed for students to make connections between their own world (i.e. Australia) and that of Asia. Each involves access to Google Maps, Wikipedia or the CIA World Factbook, though I have used printouts when faced with technical emergencies (such as the frequent disruption of my school’s network!). Each involves visual tasks, written tasks and several numeracy tasks (such as plotting graphs and calculation speed).

Each worksheet is provided as a PDF for immediate use, but also with the original Word or Powerpoint file for easy adaptation.

Major Countries and Cities of Asia

This map involves identifying, colouring and labelling of the major countries of Asia. Students also research and complete basic demographic information such as population, currency and religions. Students also identify the top 10 cities of Asia, and compare their population to a city they are familiar with (the sheet suggests Sydney, though you can adapt this to suit your needs).
The tasks are aimed at developing an awareness of the location and size of countries the students may be aware of but may not know where they are: for this reason Afghanistan and Iraq are included. Similarly, I hope students will begin to get an awareness of just how populous Asia is.
