This project is intended for 3rd graders, especially in STEM schools and those teachers that want to practice pre-algebraic skills, as it is setting the prerequisites for factors in 4th, greatest common factor in 5th, and factoring in algebra. Students will need to think of all the multiplication facts that can make a small number.
Students may know that 4x3 is 12 and separately know that 2x6 is 12 and so on, but being able to come up with a list of facts that can make 12 is like working backwards and solving a fun puzzle. It gets them to review multiplication facts in a different format than they probably have before. It gives their math brain a new workout!
The final project can be displayed as a bulletin board.
