Product Description
Making and presenting book trailers is the best! I require students to read 500 pages per quarter, and I use this assignment to hold students accountable for that independent reading.

-brief powerpoint to spark students’ thinking about book trailers and what they should include

LOGISTICS
-Before class: Teacher should create her own Stupeflix account and make a trailer—this allows you to get comfortable with the program and have an example to show students. You can see the one I made for Persepolis here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1-8ozXwoyo
-DAY 1: powerpoint + teacher models (I used Freak the Mighty because that was our current read aloud) + students create storyboard for their individual books
-DAY 2: show students how to create stupeflix account and model how to do simple functions (add photos/text) + students begin video
-DAY 3: students continue to make book trailer

-Before class: Teacher shares spreadsheet with students (eg via google classroom) where students can post the link to their completed video
-DAY 4: students finish trailer, including adding music + produce and upload to youtube + share link with teacher
-DAY 5: watch trailers! I recommend popcorn and inviting others in the building (admin/teachers/students, etc). Vote to see which in each class was students’ favorite + write down at least 1 book they want to read based off what they saw

-follow up: consider making QR codes for students’ trailers and putting them on the respective books in your classroom library :)
