Do you want a fun, engaging activity that will excite even your most unmotivated student? This activity is the ONE! After introducing my students to the traditional tale called "Henny Penny" about the sky falling, I gave my students this template so that they could create their own version of the fun tale. We brainstormed as many animals as we could think of, then wrote silly rhyming words to go with each animal name (ex. "Monkey Fonkey" or "Elephant Belephant.") I showed the kids how to come up with three characters for their story and fill in the names in the template. Then, we brainstormed possible silly items that could fall from the sky in their story. Finally, we brainstormed a possible "person in charge" to whom the characters would run to report that the object is falling. My students LOVED this activity and thoroughly enjoyed reading their new traditional tales to each other. They also drew a picture of their silly characters and the object that fell from the sky in their story. This lesson was the BEST! Your students will love it.
