PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This product includes lesson plans for introducing 24 Valentine "model" cards that may be laminated, hole-punched, and attached to metal rings for easy sharing at your February Writing Center. There is also a blank tag-style Valentine template with which to stock your Writing Center. You could use it to make your own valentines for your class if you wish, or use to support individual students' sight words or math facts. Before sending them off to create their own authentic writing, use the included mini-lessons to teach/review points about expressions in language, correct sentence structure, why exclamation points are seen throughout and contractions (which abound). You can begin using this as one of your literacy centers as early as the last week in January. Your class will LOVE this! Post a class list nearby and off they will go! It is a nice way to provide a way for everyone to participate...even those who cannot afford to purchase Valentines for their friends.

There are 30 high-frequency word cards from the Fountas and Pinnell list (all of Word List 5). Use these for sight word games, review, or formative assessments. Then place them in your Vocabulary Center. Students choose a word, then write it in a sentence. Easy-peasy! Extra blank word card templates are included for your own use.

For math, you will receive 20 "True" and "Not True" addition and subtraction fact cards, along with sorting headers. Extra blank math card templates are included so that you can program your own. Students may do this activity alone or with a buddy for support. Or, you can pull individual cards out and distribute them to individuals to meet their needs. There is a self-checking card included. If you prefer to see a written product, simply have them write the fact down in their math notebook and include the correct answer. It is still more fun than a worksheet! Provide seasonal manipulatives for those who need extra support.

Contractions are found in both the model Valentine cards as well as the math headers. There are teaching suggestions included. A contractions fill-in-the-matching-sign worksheet is provided that may also be used as a formative assessment if you wish.
