Are you using Guided Math station rotation/centers in your Kindergarten or First Grade classroom? Then, this is the perfect component to a game center!
A simple, yet fun math twist on the classic game of Go Fish! Students start with 3 cards each. They ask a specific partner if they have a number partner that MAKES a 10. Example: If a student had a 3, they would ask for a 7. The person who gets asked responds with "yes or go fish". If the first person got a match, he/she goes again. If he/she didn't get a match, the next person takes a turn. Play until cards are gone and then just PLAY AGAIN!
There are 24 cards, 12 matches total.
Hold your students ACCOUNTABLE with a recording sheet. During Guided Math, you are too busy teaching a small-group lesson to be interrupted with students in the game center. Problem solved with this easy, yet fun game center that includes a recording sheet for student accountability. Students record matches!
Teach this game ONCE and you have set up a solid foundation for other Go Fish games in your classroom.
Partners to 10 helps build essential skills for making a ten, which helps with more complex addition and subtraction strategies.
