Make a List has 25 printable lessons on divergent thinking, novelty, choice and evaluation. Students are given four topics per lesson in which they must think up ten words that fall into each category.
In one lesson, students list 10 animals to ride on, 10 animals that are noisy, 10 animals that are good mothers, and 10 animals that make you smile. In another lesson, students list 10 things smaller than a pencil, 10 things larger than a car, 10 things lighter than a pencil, and 10 things heavier than a car. In another lesson, students list 10 things that make you cry, 10 things that make you laugh, 10 things that make you afraid, and 10 things that make you angry.
There isn't just ONE answer to these topics. Students get to draw on their strengths and experiences as you engage them in Divergent Thinking.
Whether you use this activity at a Center, or for early finishers, or as a sponge, or as a way to engage students in conversation (English Language Learners), you will find that students enjoy this activity and improve their ability to Make Connections (especially if you allow them to work in pairs).
