Fives sets of adjectives, verbs, and nouns (animals / places / things / abstract), each set using one of the 5 long vowel sounds. These words can be combined by students in thousands of different ways, to make repeat sound poems of any line length. Several short examples are included, but the poetic possibilities are limitless!
A creative exercise in poetry writing, literary assonance, and phonics. A great resource for writing nonsense poems too, and short stories!
This can be an individual 'write-it-yourself' activity for students, or teachers may assist students with sentence construction, including word choice, grammar and punctuation.
Students could also look up unfamiliar words in a dictionary or encyclopedia, including names of animals they have never heard of before (thereby adding 5 minutes of biology to the session!)
The students' poems could be cut out and showcased on a class pin board, or made into a poetry book, which can be shared with other classes.
This resource is a bundle of the separate long vowel sound poetry kits in my store.
I have used this resource in tutoring, and students can produce wonderful results, even after only a few minutes effort in combining words.
Hoping your students have fun with it, and I'd love to read some of their poems in the feedback section!
