To demonstrate fluency, students need to be able to decompose numbers in various ways. One of these is by making a ten. After watching a number of firsties struggle with this concept, I decided to come up with a visual and hands on approach to make this 2-step process concrete and systematic. In this activity, students will work towards mastery of CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.C.6.
