Lesson one of a ten lesson unit on the United States and more. This is a fun creative unit in which students create a puzzle piece of the United States map by coloring their state piece, labeling the state, and labeling the nickname of the state. This unit was created with second grade in mind but students in upper grades can also label the state capitals on each piece created also. A further extension of the lesson would involve removing five puzzle pieces a day and the students need to name the pieces missing. For upper grades, like fifth grade, students need to name the state and the state's capital. Fun way to learn the location of each state. Great way to learn for visual learners as well.
