A favorite activity in my school which combines hands-on/ cooperative learning with mathematics. A number of variations make this activity adaptable to multiple grade levels. Topics which work well with this activity are; congruence, similarity, rectangular vs square, fractional parts, and bisecting angles/angle measurements. I liked to copy a photo of the student centered on the back of a sheet before beginning. After they drew and colored their tessellation they would fold the box. The finished product makes a nice gift box with the creator's picture on the inside of the lid.
