Sometimes it's difficult to get your students to really think about an informational text much less make an inference or make a claim based upon the text. I created this activity sheet as a way to help guide my students to do just that. I often use this organizer as the "After Reading" part of a Close Reading assignment. Not only do students have to make an assertion based upon the non-fiction text they just read, but they have to support their claim with evidence from the text. This particular tool has been very helpful and it's very student friendly. Not only that, but my students actually add a new word to their vocabulary...assertion.
