Poets listen to the teacher read the poem: Ssssssssss
That was written by me, Kacey. Students picture in their mind, from the poem, what the creature is that is slithering through the setting and draw and color what they picture in their mind.
Students need to build inferencing skills and poetry is a wonderful way to make this happen.
Students can either draw what they see on the back of the half sheet of paper or they can draw next to the words.
There is a note to parents and to students typed on the paper so the activity also serves as a letter home to families explaining inferencing and stressing the importance of this important comprehension skill.
