Did you know that geography can be creative and fun too?
In this engaging project, students create their own country. Then, they use their knowledge of maps and map features to create a population density, physical, elevation, and precipitation map for their country.
After they create each map for their county, they complete a "cover" sheet where they explain their country's name, population, history, etc. I have seen the most creative names and histories! The students get *really* into it!
This is a multi-step project that can be done individually or in groups. I prefer to have the students work by themselves, since their creativity and personality really shines!
*1 task sheet/brainstorming sheet/instructions page. Give one to each student as it scaffolds the assignment for them.
*1 cover page
*1 checklist for students (distribute to whole class or use it to differentiate for struggling students)
*1 learning progression scale included for scoring final project (4 exceeds standards, 3 is meeting standard, 2 is progressing toward standard, 1 is not meeting the standard)
Use, share, and enjoy! Please leave feedback or email email@example.com if you have any questions!
Happy map making!
