Makeover My Classroom! is a great activity to teach area, measurement, calculation, cost, and organization.
For this activity, students will need a pencil and paper, a 25 foot tape measure for each group of 3 students, calculation sheets and lots of time.
This is a great exercise in logical problem solving and will provide many humorous moments in watching children solve these problems. For example, children will attempt to measure the height of the walls with the tape measure and the tape will constantly fall! I give you a tip in this download on how to measure the height of a wall without using a ladder or chair to stand on.
Included in this download:
-Teacher notes & directions to walk you through the details of the classroom makeover (don't worry, it's not a real makeover!).
-Six-steps with color photos to show you how to use a tape measure to safely measure the height of the wall without climbing on a ladder or other classroom object!
-Student page with outlining the task:
"The school administration has approved the makeover of our classroom. We will be able to purchase carpet, paint the walls and re-tile the ceiling...."
-Six pages of worksheets (3 outlining wall, ceiling and floor diagrams and 3 allowing for calculations of each).
My student go crazy with this task and I think yours will too!
