Maker Space School Theme Kit

Maker Spaces, getting their start as community centers with tools, and moving to college campuses and high schools everywhere, are now taking their place in our elementary and middle school classrooms. A maker space is a designated area in which people can experiment, investigate, problem-solve, and design new inventions both collaboratively and independently.

What a fabulous opportunity your classroom Maker Space can provide for young scientists and engineers to dream, plan, invent, test, and ready their creations for sharing with others. This resource provides some basic ideas for getting started on a Maker Space project at any time of the year. The short tasks in this set have a school theme. There are three levels of task cards here: The blue level is for your independent learners, the true geniuses of “genius hour”. In this level, students receive a task that suggests a very general design topic. All else is open-ended. The green level defines a more specific problem for the student or group to solve. The purple level provides a scaffold for those who need more direction and suggestions.

Backs of cards are included here as well as grayscale versions of all the cards. Three pages of blank cards are also included in case you want to add some tasks of your own!

I hope you will enjoy using these task cards to focus on STEAM Practices in your
learning community!
