MakerBotz is a behavioral incentive MakerSpace program that allows teachers or media specialist to reward students with MakerSpace time periods. The concept of “making” in a MakerSpace is academically rewarding (allowing students to explore various STEAM learning concepts and to establish a growth mindset while “making”); furthermore, this self-driven experience is exciting to students, making this style of instruction seem more like an incentive than traditional instructional practices. And in reality, with test scores driving a teacher’s instruction, there is little time in a rigorous curriculum to comfortably allow the students to “play” without specific goals or standards in sight. MakerSpaces, STEAM, and self driven discovery sound great, and now you have some resources to start your own MakerSpace… but now what? How do you regulate who gets to play and when they get to play?
The MakerBotz program was inspired partly by trendy collector’s cards and partly by a child’s drive to unlock video game levels. The MakerBotz program is essentially a set of cards that allow access to different realms of a MakerSpace. The more cards a student acquires, the more time and the more freedom he or she has to explore within the learning space. MakerBotz cards can be rewarded based on any academic or behavioral goal the educator sees fit. Think of this as an upgrade from your average fancy pencil treasure box. Instead of a student receiving a small prize for his or her classroom goal, he or she is rewarded with “making” time. Students are driven to learn by their inherent drive to discover.
This file package includes 10 MakerBotz Robotz Card images (business card size), 1 image to be used on the reverse side of cards, and 1 MakerBotz VIP Card image that can be printed on cardstock or uploaded to any "design your own" business card professional printing website or company.
