MakerBotz is a behavioral incentive MakerSpace program that allows teachers or media specialist to reward students with MakerSpace time periods. The concept of “making” in a MakerSpace is academically rewarding (allowing students to explore various STEAM learning concepts and to establish a growth mindset while “making”); furthermore, this self-driven experience is exciting to students, making this style of instruction seem more like an incentive than traditional instructional practices. And in reality, with test scores driving a teacher’s instruction, there is little time in a rigorous curriculum to comfortably allow the students to “play” without specific goals or standards in sight. MakerSpaces, STEAM, and self driven discovery sound great, and now you have some resources to start your own MakerSpace… but now what? How do you regulate who gets to play and when they get to play?
The MakerBotz Time Card program is the same incentive concept as provided in The MakerBotz First Edition image package, but minus the Robotz characters. MakerBotz Time Card was designed for upper elementary or middle school students. This card features a place where teachers can indicate the amount of time allowed in the MakerSpace before or after rewarding the card.
See the MakerSpace MakerBotz Start Up Guide (a free resource in this store) for more information about the MakerBotz program in its entirety.
