Here are some great ways to make your spelling, or word work program more interesting and engaging for your students!
Makerspace Word Work activities are designed to be engaging, as many of the activities are hands on activities where students are asked to make, or build their words. This program can be used as part of your Daily 5 program, or to enhance your current spelling program. I am currently a librarian and am partnering with several teachers to have their students come down to the Makerspace in the library in small groups and complete a word work activity.
This PDF file contains 42 posters with one to two sentences on each page, written in simple language, describing each activity. There are enough different activities to use one for every week of the school year, however, I have been changing the activity once every two weeks, as students often do not have enough time to complete all of their words. I have also included a blank page where you can add your own ideas. Word lists are not included with this package as I have designed the activities to be used with any word lists.
Note: One of the pages uses a coin amount for each letter, I have included a duplicate, using American and Canadian coins. Also, the Canadian spelling for colour is used throughout the document. Please let me know if you would like the American spelling.
I am also willing to add any activities that are suggested to the document, if you let me know the activity I will add and update the file.
Please message me to let me know if you have any suggestions or questions! Thank you so much!
