Use these handy makeup work slips to help keep absent students informed of what they've missed in class. These are designed with secondary students in mind, but could be modified for elementary schoolers.
Tips for keeping makeup work and absent students organized:
1. Create a hanging file container with folders for each class period.
2. If a student is absent, prepare one of these slips for the student and staple any related worksheets to the back. You could also staple on any papers that were handed back in class that day. File makeup work by class period for students to pick up when they return.
3. If you take attendance on a paper roster, highlight or place a checkmark next to the absent students as you file their makeup work. No more "It wasn't in the folder!" excuses!
4. File additional copies of each day's handouts in another hanging file container by date (31 folders each numbered 1-31). At the end of the month or unit, clean out the folders, or move the papers to another folder in the very back (this folder is labeled "SUPER OLD" in my classroom files). Students can fetch additional copies as needed.
