This Making 10! game coincides with the 2nd grade curriculum, reactivating grade 1 skills: Making 10 (a strategy to solve an addition problem)
It is a PowerPoint Presentation that comes to life when you present it as a slide show!!
* 10 frame presentation
* 3 different versions of a student work mats
Materials I use: 10 frames, red/yellow counters, and dry erase markers.
I split my students into partner-pairs and have one person use “yellow” counters and the partner use “red” counters. I have the “yellow” friends make the first number on their 10 frames (I put 10 frames in their Smart Pal dry erase pockets). Then the partner uses “red” counters to make the next number on their frame. To check whether the 10 frames make a 10, the “red” friends move over their counters! If the teacher makes a 10, the teacher gets a point. If the students make a 10, the students get a tally mark! You can have students write out the addition and subtraction equations as well!! *MAKE SURE to play it in the slide show presentation form and the dots will move!
