Monsters Shopping: Making Change from Dollar and Counting Coins
The monsters are shopping, so come along and practice counting coins and making change from a dollar. Students will read story problems involving making change from a dollar. They will match cards showing the change with a dollar sign, and also match a card showing coins totaling the correct amount of change. The student records these on the provided recording sheet. When finished, students can play concentration matching the coin cards to the dollars and cents form. My students also play a game where they choose a card and calculate the change. The other student checks them on a calculator. If the student is correct, then he keeps the card. The one with the most cards at the end wins. I provided a hundreds chart that some students find helpful when calculating change from $1.00. Some students may need coins to help them too.
