Fun and engaging center activity to help students understand compound words.
There are 78 compound word card along with 90 individual picture cards needed to make those 78 compound words.
There are THREE learning acdtivities that you can use these cards for with your students. See the pictures above.
#1 - Use as a pocket chart activity. Students use two green picture cards to match a compound word on a blue card.
#2 - Using the green picture cards, students record the compound words that can be made with those cards on a student recording sheet.
#3 - Students choose a blue compound word picture. They write the compound word on a recording sheet.
To view all of the green picture cards and corresponding compound picture cards click on the preview. You'll also find a list of all of the compound words that can be made by 'matching' two green picture cards with a blue compound word picture card at the end of the preview.
If you are just introducing compound words to your students, pick and choose which cards to use. You'll notice that on the word list that's included that I've arranged them by the word parts they share. For example, all compound words with the word 'fish' are listed together. You'll see angelfish, goldfish, swordfish, fishbowl etc listed together. This may help you to choose the cards you want to introduce compound words to your students.
NOTE: There will be some cutting involved in getting this literacy station set up but it'll be a favorite literacy center for many years to come. Trust me!
