In my house, growing up, my Mum used to bestow upon us a Golden Brownie Point if we had done something great - this idea crept into my classroom as an idea for encouraging cross curricula links and critical thinking.
At first the kids were baffled by what a Golden Brownie point was?!?!?! It created interest and then took on a life of it's own. In my classroom I am watching out for any opportunity to award a GBP, (they get extra merits if they make a connection). The name is a bit silly on one level but the kids appreciate my quirky story and love making these connections! I even have kids reminding me that 'Jonny' deserves a GBP for something he has just said! Result!
I am looking for them to bring knowledge from another lesson, subject, news, personal reading, personal experience ect and link it to what we are talking about in class.
