Good readers make connections while they read. The three types of connects are: text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to world. This mini-lesson in the form of a PowerPoint presentation will walk your students through the following:
-What do we mean by making connections?
-What are the 3 types of connections?
-Examples of each type of connection
-4 Practice scenarios where students are given examples and they
have to determine the type of connection.
-Independent Practice- Students will have an opportunity to do
independent reading and then use a 3-column chart (shown in the
PowerPoint) to make connections while they read.
-Wrap-up: Students will have an opportunity to share the
connections they made while reading independently.
*The PowerPoint itself will take approximately 15-20 minutes. With the independent reading and sharing, 1 hour is recommended.
