These activities will help your achieving students push their connections to the next level and help your struggling learner practice with this strategy. I've found that students are happiest when they are working on tasks that are similar. The easier version of this activity is still challenging, but it is much more scaffolded for a struggling student. I would even use the easier version with some of my ESL students and have them replace some of the list words with drawings, or have them focus on the vocabulary question that comes at the end. Either way, you will get rich, thoughtful responses from your students with this activity.
