This includes two sheets where students must not only graph the information, but also determine on what type of graph the data should be displayed. This is an excellent assessment of students' ability to interpret and identify data, and then graph. I assess students on their ability to first determine the type of graph each data set goes on and then on their ability to include all aspects/components of each graph (title, labels, units, scale, etc). One of the sheets has students determining the independent and dependent variable and creating appropriate titles based on the information provided in the graph (something most of my students have trouble doing...so the more practice, the better). This information then helps students appropriately label their axis of the graph.
It is simple, yet an excellent assessment.
I usually preface this assignment with a quick review of how to graph. You can find a PPT/Flipchart in my store that would review graphing quickly and simply.
Graphing usually takes my kids quite some time. I have students finish this assignment for homework, but this could possibly take some kids an entire class period. Can also easily be used for differentiation.
