The It Says, I Say, And So graphic organizer is an excellent cross-curricular strategy for teaching students how to think when making inferences and interpreting.
It is easily used for fiction, nonfiction, and expository texts. The It Says, I Say, And So strategy for making inferences comes from the book When Kids Can't Read
The strategy works like this:
It Says - Direct quote where evidence is cited
I Say - What does that quote mean? (interpretation)
And So - Combine the two to answer the question (inference)
Included are: a full page graphic organizer, a full page rubric, half page rubrics, a full page blank rubric to build your own, and a half page blank rubric to build your own
