    Bundle Description
Students engage in developing skills and strategies to put information together from two sources. Students engage in a mystery where they must use a case file and a crime scene photo to make inferences based on the evidence provided. Inferential questions challenge students to find valid evidence to defend their inferences. Once they have analyzed the texts, students synthesize the information by solving the crime.

    Mysteries Included in This Bundle:

    Abducted at Night
Darius Lesgetum has been abducted and there is a list of four suspects who may have taken him. Was the kidnapper his father, his nurse, a gardener, or even his own mother? It's up to your students to take the lead detective role and help find Darius Lesgetum using the clues left behind.

    Take a Stab At It
Love is supposed to be sweet bliss. What started out as a playful competition of balancing a spoon on your nose, soon turned into an argument over how to fold laundry. A thrown plate. A supposed attempted stabbing. What really happened at Mr. and Mrs. Stabber's house? It is up to your students to take the lead and figure out the events that took place and who should be charged with a crime.

    Death for Dinner
What was meant to be a nice evening at the diner quickly turned into murder. The body on the ground belonged to Five-Fingered Freddy, a popular mobster. Who shot him? It's up to your students to lead the way in solving this mystery.

    Fishing For Answers
Follow these instructions or never see your son again...words a father never wants to hear. Rich I Ghotdoh followed the ransom instructions exactly as stated, and even got his son back, but who sent and picked up the ransom? It is up to your students to take the lead and figure this question out before the criminal gets away.

    Hands Off My Sweets
A kidnapping threat has been received by Ike Sweets. If he does not pay-up, something will happen to his nine-year-old daughter. Your students will lead an investigation of the threatening note to try and find clues that will help discover the person making the threats.

    Penny For Your Thoughts
Was it simply a story of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Was Mr. Meow guilty of more than simply trying to rob Coy N. Colechter of his rare coin? Your students take the role of detective to figure out what happened between Mr. Meow and Coy N. Colechter. .

    Slip & Slide Mystery
Was it a slip and fall accident? Could there be foul play involved? Your students must help investigate the death of Bumper Mihinie and figure out the real story of what happened in the bathroom.

    Dream and Dash
A man checks into a hotel claiming his name is Cam U. Fyndme. He left the hotel never paying his $500.00 room charge. Can your students figure out where the man is going so the hotel can get their money back?

Your students will be stronger at inferring with this activity because:
✐Students are engaged in the work by taking the role of detective and engaging in fun mysteries.
✐The questions are inferential in nature and presented in an organizer that helps students understand that all good inferences need valid evidence.
✐Students can work in pairs and argue their viewpoints based upon the evidence they have gathered for the inferences they make.
✐These arguments lead to stronger reasoning skills, and provide a self-assessment opportunity for sorting which inferences are strong from those that are weaker.
✐Students hone their writing skills as the final question asks them to synthesize all information to create a final reflection of the mystery.

    How each lesson works:
⛏Students read a mystery scenario and view a picture that serves as "The Crime Scene".
⛏Students read through inferential questions and use the text and picture to create evidence.
⛏They must determine valid evidence from evidence not connected to their inference.
⛏Students debate their inferences and evidence to strengthen their reasoning.
⛏In the end, they write a final answer that puts all the clues together.
