Description

This making inferences reading passage is a nonfiction text with worksheets based on our History of Hip-Hop Dance, rap song. Students will use the song's lyrics to infer the best answer to comprehension questions about the Hip-Hop dance "breaking," commonly referred to as "breakdancing."

The song for this activity explores how the dance started, how it is performed, and how it gained global recognition. This activity is sure to engage fans of dance and students in general!

This activity includes:

- the song lyrics for use as a reading passage

- 6 multiple-choice, inferencing questions based on the song lyrics with the answer key

- a "Turn and Talk" and writing activity that challenges students to infer about which other dance styles and cultures influenced breaking.

How to use this activity:

- Explain the concept of inferencing using the instructions on page 1.

- Next, have students listen to each song for the corresponding reading passage while following along with the lyrics on pages 3 - 5.

- Guide students through answering question 1 as a class. Review with them as necessary.

- Students will now answer the remaining multiple-choice questions.

Next, students will complete the "Turn and Talk" activity detailed above.

- The answer keys for the questions are located on pages 6 and 7.
